Member of Hamas political bureau, Nizar Awadallah, a father of six, was born on 11 Dec. 1957 in Gaza City. His family was forcefully displaced by Zionist gangs from their home in Hamama village near Askalan in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948. 

Awadallah grew up in a conservative family, as his father was an Al-Azhar scholar. 
 
Receiving his elementary education in Gaza City, Awadallah graduated with a BSc in civil engineering from Ain Shams University in Cairo.

After his graduation and until 2000, Awadallah worked as the secretary of the Islamic Mujama' (Compound) in Gaza. 

From 1985 to 1997, Awadallah had assisted Sheikh Ahmad Yassin in running the Islamic Compound Club. 

Israeli occupation forces detained Awadallah in 1986 and imprisoned him for six years.  

A member of the Palestine Engineers Association, Awadallah has been a member of the Hamas political body since 2006 and served as head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the current Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh was appointed as prime minister. 

In 2009, Awadallah was elected as a member of the Hamas political bureau. 

Since the capture of Israeli occupation soldier Gilad Shalit, Awadallah took part in the talks that resulted in the Wafa al-Ahrar swap prisoner deal in 2011.  

Israeli occupation warplanes bombed his house in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in Gaza City during the 2009 and 2019 Israeli military onslaughts on the besieged Gaza Strip.
