Hamas issued the following press release:
An official source in Hamas said that an important meeting was held between Hamas leaders and Majed Faraj, the head of the Palestinian intelligence apparatus in Gaza on last Friday during which the recent developments in the Palestinian arena were discussed and the current regional situations.
Both sides stressed the need to move forward in the upcoming Cairo talks and to be committed to apply all the items mentioned in the 2011 agreement to complete the steps that were taken in Gaza to enable the Palestinian government and handover the crossings.
From his side, Faraj hailed the role played by the security apparatus in Gaza in maintaining security and organizing travel via the crossings.
They emphasized the Palestinian people’s right to armed resistance so long as the Palestinian independent state is not declared yet.
Both sides concluded by saying that efforts will be made to guarantee a successful Egyptian sponsorship to the Palestinian reconciliation and to work with all Palestinian factions to achieve the unity in order to reach positive outcomes that can serve the Palestinian fair cause.
