The head of the Politburo of Hamas , Ismail Haniyeh, phoned a number of leaders in the region to discuss the serious consequences of the American decision to recognize Jerusalem as a capital of the occupation and to move the US embassy there.
Haniyeh called Sunday the Secretary General of the Arab League States , Ahmad Abu El Gheit and warned of the grave outcomes of the American stances regarding occupied Jerusalem.
He called for holding an urgent meeting to discuss the serious consequences of this step pointing out that the issue Jerusalem is of great consensus amongst all Arab nations.
Haniyeh warned that this step could be the onset of a critical turning point in the region. He also added that the Palestinians will defend Jerusalem, their land and rights.
For his part , Abu El Gheit expressed his concerns of the American intentions asserting that meetings will be held with the permanent representatives at the League and the foreign ministers to discuss mechanisms and ways to deal with this matter.
