The head of the Politburo of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh assured that the American intention to relocate the US embassy to occupied Jerusalem and to recognize it as Israel’s capital will not change the history and geography of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem will always remain the capital of Palestine.

During an interview with Al Jazeera Channel, Haniyeh affirmed that Jerusalem is Islamic, Arab and Palestinian city pointing out the American decision is a gamble and an uncalculated risk.

He emphasized that the American decision is a blatant aggression against our people, the Islamic nation and free people of the world. Haniyeh added that the reaction of the Islamic people will shock the US administration.

He stressed that this decision will spark the beginning of grave hostilities, not only at the Palestinian level, but also at the regional level.

Haniyeh emphasized that the Palestinian people will strongly confront this decision and they will not surrender until this American attempt is foiled

He added, “We , the Palestinian people, will not accept this American plan" emphasizing that the Palestinians can ignite one Intifada after the other”.

Haniyeh stated that he phoned the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas and we agreed to mobilize the Palestinian masses to protest against the American decision.

He pointed out that Hamas had sensed the dangers looming over the Palestinian cause, and thus decided to move towards the Palestinian reconciliation to protect the cause.

Haniyeh called upon the Arab and Islamic nations to put aside their differences and to mobilize their energy to support their main battle; the Palestinian cause.
