The Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) congratulates South Africa’s African National Congress for the successful election of its new Top 6 leaders and we congratulate the successful candidates, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa.   We pray that the new ANC leadership will be able to unify the party and take it to new heights, while reviving its revolutionary spirit in service of the poor, oppressed and exploited masses of South Africa and the continent of Africa. Hamas will always stand with the ANC in the battle against poverty, apartheid, monopoly capitalism and imperialism.  

The ANC has long been a friend of the Palestinian people, and a champion for Palestinian rights. We expect that this commitment of the ANC will be strengthened and given fresh impetus by the new leadership as it translates ANC decisions on Palestinian solidarity and its condemnation of Israel into government policy and action. We welcome a South African role in assisting Palestinians to realise our liberation from an apartheid system and state similar to (and in some cases worse than) what South Africans were confronted with in the past.
