Senior Hamas official Basem Naim denounced on Monday remarks of Israeli Deputy Knesset Speaker Bezalel Smotrich against Palestinian girl inside Israeli jails Ahed Tamimi.

On his twitter, Smotrich write: “In my opinion, she [Ahed Tamimi] should have gotten a bullet, at least in the kneecap. That would have put her under house arrest for the rest of her life.”

This came response to the Israeli journalist Yinon Magal, who had reposted the famouse video of Palestinian girl with the text: “I am watching this clip again and am so glad that Tamimi is still in jail. Sometimes, it’s good that the mills of justice grind slowly.”

“Such remarks reflect the immoral mentality of the Israeli MKs,” Naim, the member of Hamas international relations office, said.

Naim stressed “this is considered a clear order from an Israeli lawmaker to the Israeli soldiers to target the Palestinian children,” noting this is a violation of the international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, which provides special protection to children.

The Hamas leader also called for boycotting these “extremist Israeli MKs and bringing them before the international courts on the grounds of their crimes against the Palestinians.”

Background information

Tamimi, 17, was arrested and charged soon after the incident took place last December. In March, she was convicted in a plea bargain of assaulting a soldier, incitement and interfering with a soldier in the line of duty. She was sentenced to eight months in prison plus a fine of 5,000 shekels ($1,400).

In the original indictment, Ahed Tamimi was also charged with several other offenses, including throwing stones at heavily armed Israeli soldiers on various occasions.

Tamimi slapped an Israeli soldier, who stormed her house one day after shooting her cousin causing him lose part of his skull and has been living in permanent disability.
