Press release issued by Hamas regarding meeting of UNRWA donors conference in New York.

There’s no doubt that the aggravating finical crisis of UNRWA has dramatically affected the lives of more than five million Palestinian refugees, who fully depend on its services. 

Hamas expresses its concerns over the repercussions of this crisis on the situation of the Palestinian refugees and in light of the aforementioned, demands the following:  

First: We call on the international community and the United Nations to not take the repercussions of liquidating the Palestinian refugees’ issue lightly along with their fundamental rights, the foremost among them is their right to live a secure and decent life and return to their homeland, from which they we forced out, as well as compensating them for damages.   

Second: We urge the provision of necessary funds for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in order to enable it to continue providing services and carry its duty towards millions of the Palestinian refugees. 

Third: We reiterate the necessity to seek a comprehensive solution for the UNRWA’s crisis, as it’s unacceptable that the suffering of Palestine’s refugees continues, while their lives are at risk due to international political positions and the U.S. arbitrary decisions that are biased towards the Israeli Occupation at the expense of the Palestinians’ rights. We call on the United Nations to take a firm decision and allocate the UNRWA funds as part of its overall budget and we also urge the Arab and Islamic countries to adhere to its commitments and fund the UNRWA’s budget.
