Member of Hamas' Political Bureau, Husam Badran, on Tuesday called upon the Palestinian Authority to stop the prosecution of university students in the West Bank, and immediately release the students detained by the security services.
Badran said in a press statement that the continuation of the political arrests undermines the claims of the Palestinian Authority regarding its opposition of Donald Trump's "Deal of the Century".
He pointed out that the only way to deal with Trump's scheme is to terminate the security coordination and pursue the path of resistance to face the Israeli Occupation, its projects and plots.
"The PA security forces must provide protection for the Palestinian cause and secure the needs of the students required for their struggle against the Israeli Occupation and not to persecute them. Such actions only serve the Israeli Occupation," Badran stated.
Badran praised the students of various Palestinian universities in the West Bank for their efforts despite the prosecution of the Israeli Occupation and the PA security services.
He called on the university administration to immediately intervene and save its students from the policy of political detention, to protect them and to prevent any external interference in their academic life.
The Hamas member also called on the Palestinian factions, human rights institutions and national bodies to establish a national backing in support of the right of university students to work freely and to put an end to security interventions and repressive measures taken against them.
