Following the Palestinian Authority’s decision to sack head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Issa Qaraqe’, member of Hamas Political Bureau Mosa Dodeen stated the following:
The Palestinian people, including the Palestinian detainees, received the news of the decision of the PA’s President Mahmoud Abbas to sack the head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Issa Qaraqe’ over his criticism to the PA’s punitive measure to cut financial aid to the Palestinian detainees and ex-detainees with great shock.
We consider Qaraqe’s dismissal over his criticism of the PA policies as a blatant violation of the Palestinian detainees’ legitimate rights, which is guaranteed under the Palestinian constitution, and a blow to their steadfastness in face of the Israeli Occupation.
The PA’s decision to dismiss Qaraqe also proves its authoritarianism and individuality.
We hail Qaraqe for the efforts he exerted in support of the Palestinian detainees and their rights.
We are very confident that Qaraqe will continue to support the Palestinian detainees and their rights regardless of the PA’s decision to dismiss him.
We call on Qdari Abu Baker, who was recently nominated as head of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs after sacking his predecessor Qaraqe by the PA’s President, to defend the Palestinian detainees’ rights and avoid complicity in the PA’s sanctions that target the Palestinian detainees in the Israeli jails.
