Press Statement

Issued by Husam Badran member of Hamas delegation to Cairo

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has received an invitation from the Arab Republic of Egypt to visit Cairo to continue discussions regarding the national reconciliation and the ways to end the siege and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The delegation along with Palestinian factions held a series of meetings with the Egyptian officials in which the necessity of achieving a Palestinian reconciliation on the basis of full national partnership was emphasized in order to achieve the unity of the Palestinian people and strengthen their steadfastness in the face of the Israeli Occupation.

The talks also dealt with ways to build a suitable Palestinian environment to achieve this, foremost of which is the lifting of the punitive measures imposed on our people in the Gaza Strip, the implementation of the Reconciliation Agreement signed in 2011, and the outcome of the Beirut agreement of January 2017.

The talks also focused on the mechanisms of maintaining and stabilizing the 2014 cease-fire which was announced following the Israeli aggression on the besieged coastal enclave. This is accompanied by the end of the Israeli-imposed siege on the Strip and the suffering of its citizens. The meetings are serious in achieving the freedom, hopes and ambitions of our people.

The meetings with the Egyptian officials will resume in Cairo immediately after the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.

We highly appreciate the national spirit of the Palestinian factions which gathered in Cairo with zeal to achieve a better and brighter future for Palestine.
