“The Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ remarks in which he had voiced interest in a confederation with Jordan and the Israeli Occupation proves his intention to depart from national consensus,” Hamas’ spokesperson Hazem Qasem said.

In a press release, Qasem added that Abbas’ statements about his relation with the Israeli Shin Bet and his security collaboration with the Israeli Occupation exposes his carelessness about the sacrifices made by the Palestinian people during their struggle against the occupation.

“Such statements prove that Abbas had challenged all decisions made in Palestinian National Council meeting,” Qasem continued.

Qasem explained that Abbas’ interest in a tripartite confederation helps the Israeli Occupation to integrate into the region and prompts the U.S. administration to implement its plans aiming at liquidating the Palestinian cause, taking the Jerusalem issue off the table, and abolishing the Palestinians’ right to return to their homeland.
