Press release issued by Head of Hamas Diaspora Office Maher Salah on the 25th anniversary of Oslo Accords

The Palestinian cause is going through difficult and complicated circumstances due to the ongoing Israeli aggression aganist Palestine and its people, the accelerating settlement expansion, judaization of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites, and the continuation of the crippling siege imposed on the Gaza Strip. All of that is added to the enforcement of the racist ‘Jewish-nation state’ law in a flagrant defiance of the international community.

At the same time, the U.S. role in the peace process has turned from being a neutral into a biased broker, especially after the U.S. administration’s recognition of Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Palestine, as the Israeli Occupation’s capital and after the attempts to vanish the Palestinians’ Right of Return to their lands from which they were forcibly displaced by Israeli gangs in 1948 through cutting off UNRWA’s fund. The U.S. administration also works on liquidating the Palestinians’ right of return by attempting to redefine a Palestinian refugee, to pressure the refugees to accept citizenship, and to promote the so-called “the deal of the century” which denies the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The Palestinian cause has got into conditions inevitably due to entering into the ‘Political fault of Oslo, Oslo Accords, which led to the Palestinian rift and brought weakness to the Palestinians. It also opened the door to compromise and make concessions on the Palestinian people’s national rights and constants.  After the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian issue has been reduced into an authority under the Israeli occupation, prioritizing security collaboration with it, and isolating more than half a million of the Palestinian people living in the diaspora.

We, in Hamas, reiterate our opposition to the Oslo Accords and the option of negotiations. Hamas again urges the Palestinian Liberation Organization to cancel its recognition of the Israeli Occupation as a state, to halt the security collaboration that threatens the national unity, and exert more serious and honest efforts to achieve the national reconciliation by abiding by the 2005 National Consensus Document, the 2011 Cairo agreement, and the 2017 Beirut understandings. These documents are the gate to reach consensus on a national strategy to repulse the Israeli Occupation and its racist policies.
