Holding the Palestinian National Council meeting does not represent the Palestinian people and factions amid the absence of major national parties, Member of Hamas Political Bureau Husam Badran said. 

In a press release, Badran explained that the PNC's meeting, scheduled on Thursday, is a failed attempt by Fatah to back Abbas during his speech to the UN General Assembly, which will be delivered without popular support from his people.

Badran noted that Abbas would stand before the UNGA, while inflicting collective punishment on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, including the Palestinian detainees and ex-detainees, evading the enforcement of the reconciliation agreement, and thwarting all efforts exerted to achieve the national unity. 

He confirmed that holding the PNC’s meeting would deepen the internal rift and reflect Abbas’ intention to prevent the Palestinian factions from having a say on the national decisions.

He demonstrated that employing the national institutions as instruments for achieving short-sighted faction-concerned objectives would undermine its role and hinder holding new elections. 

The Hamas leader reiterated the movement’s calls for Abbas to stop adopting his ‘isolationist policy’ that had repercussions on the Palestinian cause. 

Badran urged the PA President to adopt the option of resistance, which was selected by the Palestinian people to restore their rights, despite the enormous challenges of this path.
