Member of Hamas Political Bureau Mosa Abu-Marzoq confirmed that Hamas is open to the participation of all the Palestinian factions and segments in order to handle all controversial issues.  

In a press release, Abu-Marzoq said that the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas could end the internal Palestinian rift, if he decided that, by visiting the Gaza Strip, ending all sanctions he imposes on the coastal territory, and announcing the national reconciliation on the basis of national partnership.     

Talks between Hamas and Egypt

Abu-Marzoq described the meetings between the senior Hamas delegation and Egyptian officials as “transparent and fruitful”. 

“The meetings tackled all issues concerning the Palestinian cause and the four-day talks were rounded off with a meeting with the Egyptian Intelligence Minister Abbas Kamel,” Abu-Marzoq added.  

Abu-Marzoq said that he believes Palestinian people would soon reap the fruits of these meetings, which tackled several issues, including the national reconciliation.

“Egypt informed Hamas that it would continue supporting the Palestinians to solve the difficult issues related to the Palestinian cause,” Abu-Marzoq added, noting that Egypt has always been a supporter to the Palestinian people and their cause throughout history. 

National consensus government

“We discussed with the Egyptian officials forming a consensus government based on the outcomes of the 2017 Beirut meeting in which all the Palestinian factions decided to form a unity government and reiterated the necessity that the PA President Abbas must consult all factions on that matter,” Abu-Mazoq said.    

The prominent Hamas leader confirmed that the movement wanted a political system to be set up based on national partnership in which all the Palestinian factions are involved and together endorse national decisions.

Hamas and the Palestinian Authority Organization (PLO)

“Hamas does not seek a majority in the PLO or in the Palestinian National Council,” Abu-Marzoq said adding, “Rather, we want to be part of the PLO just as the other Palestinian factions based on national partnership,”

He stressed that Hamas, as a national liberation movement, would adhere to all international conventions serving justice to the Palestinian cause. 

Palestinian reconciliation

Abu-Marzoq confirmed that achieving the national unity is a top priority for Hamas in order to fight off the challenges posed to the Palestinian cause, including the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’.     

“Even though it is not announced yet,” Abu-Marzoq said, “the ‘Deal of the Century’ is being implemented on the ground,” in a clear reference to the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli occupation’s capital and move its embassy to the holy city.  

Abu-Marzoq noted that Egypt expressed its rejection to the ‘Deal of the Century’ and the establishment of a state in Gaza or a state without the coastal territory.

The Hamas Politburo member warned about the repercussions of the U.S. plans to strip the Palestinian refugees, who were forced out of their homeland during the 1948 Nakba, of their refugee status to liquidate their cause.  

Abu-Marzoq lauded Egypt for its efforts to alleviate the Palestinians’ suffering in the Gaza Strip by providing the coastal territory with many of the basic and necessary food and fuel supplies amid the suffocating Israeli siege imposed on the strip.
