The member of Hamas Political Bureau Mosa Abu Marzoq ruled out that the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas would impose new sanctions on the Gaza Strip.

In a tweet, Abu Marzoq said that it would be politically difficult for Abbas to carry out his threats against the Gaza Strip.

Abu Marzoq explained that the PA President could not let this move enter into effect because of “the Israeli occupation-Palestinian Authority economic and security deals from which Abbas could not unilaterally withdraw”.

If Abbas imposed new punitive measures on the besieged enclave, Abu Marzoq added, he would serve the Israeli Occupation’s interests and separate the West Bank from Gaza.

Since March 2017, the PA has been imposing punitive measures on the impoverished strip, including slashing the salaries of Gaza’s governmental employees.
