Press release issued by Hamas following the Palestinian Government proposal of ‘Social Security Law’ amid a wide popular opposition.

In light of this, the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas states the following:

With great interest, Hamas has followed up the al-Hamdulliah-led government’s proposal of the ‘Social Security Law ‘ and observed the enormous popular opposition to this law, as a mass popular protest was held in Ramallah yesterday to express rejection to it.

Hamas reiterates its rejection to this law and its endorsement, as it violates the Basic Palestinian Law and bypasses the legitimate institutions that are in charge of approving and putting forward similar laws.

We strongly reject some articles of this law because they violate the rights of the Palestinian working force, the detainees and ex-detainees, and families of Palestinian killed by the Israeli occupation forces, besides the absence of a clear mechanism that preserves the private and public rights.

Hamas condemns the government’s determination to take a step forward in enforcing the law while ignoring the large-scale popular criticism to it.

We call on the government to halt the enforcement of that law, to respond to the Palestinian people’s demands, and to adhere to the legal mechanisms to approve similar laws.

Hamas hails the Palestinian people for participating in the popular protests against the ‘Social Security Law’ and taking to the social media platforms to demand their social rights.
