The issue of the Palestinian refugees is being systematically liquidated through forcible displacement and insecurity, a Hamas leader in Lebanon Ahmed Abdel-Hadi said. 

In a press release, Abdel-Hadi said the “regrettable clashes” in Mieh Mieh Refugee Camp situated in southern Lebanon, erupted due to individual disputes, caused an enormous destruction in the camp and forced its residents to flee. 

Abdel-Hadi reiterated that the Palestinian refugees have to preserve security and stability in Lebanon.

He called on the Palestinian refugees to uphold their right to return to their homeland and reject all plans aiming at their resettlement.

He considered using the Palestinian weapon inside Lebanon “unacceptable act”, as the resistance’s weapons must be pointed only at the Israeli occupation.

He noted that the situation in Mieh Mieh Refugee Camp is still tense and several efforts at the political, military, and factional levels have been exerted to defuse the tension, allow the camp’s residents to return, and rehabilitate the camp. 

The Hamas leader noted that the Lebanese authorities have sent a message to the rival factions warning them not to repeat what happened in Mieh Mieh Refugee camp.

Two Palestinians have been killed and up to 22  others injured, including a Hamas leader, on 15 and 16 October in clashes at Mieh Mieh Refugee Camp.

Violent clashes first erupted in the camp on Monday between Hezbollah-backed members of the Ansar Allah Group and the Palestinian movement, Fatah.

Established in 1954, Mieh Mieh Refugee Camp is currently a home for some 5,000 Palestinian refugees.
