The member of Hamas Political Bureau Mahmoud al-Zahar described the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the Central Council as “pointless” warning the Israeli War Minister Avigdor Lieberman against attacking Gaza.

In a press release, al-Zahar confirmed that Abbas’ call on the Palestinian people to unite behind the Palestinian Liberation Organisation is aimed at legitimising his own unilateral decisions, which contradict with the Palestinians’ interests and ambitions.

The PA President delivered a speech at the 30th session of the Central Council in the West Bank city of Ramallah despite a wide boycott of the summit by prominent Palestinian factions, let alone Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

“Abbas’ speech was a mixture of confusing thoughts that contradict with the status quo,” al-Zahar added.

Meanwhile, the Hamas leader condemned the accelerating level of normalisation with the Israeli occupation, warning the neighboring states against taking such a move.

Regarding the Israeli War Minister’s threats to attack Gaza, al-Zahar said that Lieberman will be risking his political future if he resorts to launching an offensive against Gaza.

Al-Zahar reiterated that the Palestinian resistance is prepared to repulse any Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people noting that the Israeli occupation has gained nothing from its previous offensives on Gaza.

As regards the efforts exerted to lift the Israeli siege on Gaza and hammer out a ceasefire with the Israeli occupation, al-Zahar said, “The Israeli Occupation is hindering such endeavours by betraying his pledges to the brokers and setting terms that are hard to meet.”
