Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum stated the following:
The statements made by the Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad indicate a sudden reversal of the Egyptian reconciliation talks.
In his statements, al-Ahmed threatens the Palestinian people and insults all bodies providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, especially to the families of the Great Rerun March’s victims.
Al-Ahmed's statements highlight the ill intention of a group of senior Fatah officials who believe that the Egyptian endeavours to achieve unity and pressure the Israeli occupation to lift the siege would considerably affect their personal interests.
Hamas would not listen to these 'discordant voices'. The movement is determined to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation and spares no effort to remove the 12-year Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.
Out of its national responsibility, Hamas welcomes all endeavours to restore the Palestinian unity and lift the crippling blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation since 2006.
