Chief of the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas Ismail Haniyeh condemned on Wednesday the US efforts to propose resolution condemning Palestinian resistance at the UN General Assembly.

In a message handed over to the director general of the UN office in the Gaza Strip, Haniyeh reiterated to the UN General Assembly President Maria Fernanda Spinosa that Hamas is following up furiously the ongoing and miserable efforts by the US efforts to delegitimise the Palestinian resistance of the Israeli occupation.

Haniyeh also condemned the efforts of the administration of the US President Donald Trump to reduce the number of UN resolutions on the Palestinian issue to be proposed on International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People under the pretext that "many biased resolutions against Israel are not helpful."

In the letter, Haniyeh said: “We refer the US to the UN support for the legitimacy of the resistance and national liberation movements in the world, through several important resolutions issued by the General Assembly between 1970 and 1985, which highlighted the international legal character of these movements.”

He cited that the “UN granted, for example, the Palestine Liberation Organization a permanent observer in the various organs of the United Nations, Under Resolution No. (3210) of October 14, 1974.”

The Hamas chief also said: “The rules of international humanitarian law have contributed to strengthening the legal status of the resistance and national liberation movements against the occupation, and to legitimizing their resistance activities to achieve their right to self-determination as mentioned in the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions.”

Haniyeh stressed that “the Israeli occupation of our people’s lands, depriving them of their basic rights, forcible displacement and the continuation of settlement activities and siege are forms of terror.

“These are the main reason for the continued violence, not only in the Palestinian territories but also in the entire region, denying it of stability.”

Meanwhile, he condemned “the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, represented by the retention of the occupation, the Judaization of Jerusalem and the forcible change of the demography of the Holy City, the theft of land and the demolition of houses to build more settlements, and the terrible siege has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than 12 years.”

Hamas top leader “condemned the Israeli behaviour of acting as an entity above the law, by rejecting dozens of international resolutions condemning the occupation, settlement and targeting civilians, and even working to abort these decisions and prevent their implementation in all ways.”

He reiterated on the right of the Palestinians to defend themselves and resist the occupation by all available means, including “armed resistance, guaranteed by the international law,” stressing that Hamas is a Palestinian movement that works for the fulfilment of the Palestinian aspirations.

He stressed on the importance of the international work to thwart the US efforts to delegitimise the Palestinian resistance, and instead to put an end to the “abhorrent” Israeli occupation and help achieving the Palestinian dreams.
