On the anniversary of the UN Partition Resolution for Palestine, Hamas reiterates rejection of some arbitrary resolutions and de facto policy of the UN.

On the 71st anniversary of the UN Partition Plan for Palestine, the world has to pay attention to the enormous suffering and grave injustice the Palestinian people have been sustaining since the UN member states voted on November 29, 1947 on Resolution 181 in favour of a Zionist entity at the expense of the Palestinian people and their homeland. The Israeli occupation was granted legitimacy for violent usurping of Palestine in a blatant violation of the international law and the legal and moral principles of the United Nations. The annual observance of 29 November by the United Nations as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is a political, moral, and legal confession of the international community that it is held responsible for the catastrophe befallen the Palestinian people.

This painful anniversary has come again, while the Israeli Occupation is committing massacres against the Palestinian people, conducting raid and arrest campaigns, demolishing the Palestinian-owned homes, judaizing Jerusalem and desecrating the holy sites by storming Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram al-Ibrahimi on a daily basis, confiscating Palestinian lands, and expanding the illegal settlements in the West Bank. Moreover, the Israeli occupation has been imposing a crippling siege on the Gaza Strip since 2006, thus collectively punishing all the people of Gaza.

In a bid to establish the so-called “Jewish state” on the land of occupied Palestine, the Israeli occupation has endorsed the nation-state law and denied the Palestinians living in the 1948 occupied territories of all their rights as indigenous people of this territory.

Indeed, the Israeli occupation commits all the aforementioned violations taking advantage of the divisions and rifts in the Arab world and of the US complete bias towards the Zionist project.

On this tragic anniversary, Hamas stresses that the Palestinian people will uphold their rights and claim to their homeland. Therefore, we state the following:

First: Resolution 181 is null and void, as it legitimizes the forcible occupation of the other people’s land, in a blatant violation of the international law and the legal and moral principles of the UN itself.

Second: We hail the Palestinian people in the West Bank, in Gaza Strip, in the 1948 occupied territories, and in diaspora for standing steadfast in the face of the occupation and embracing the option of resistance in their struggle against the Zionist colonial project until restoring their rights, above all the Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homeland.

Third: We praise the Palestinian people for their massive participation in the Great March of Return. Hamas announces its full support for the Palestinian masses who has been marching along Gaza’s borders. We stress that the march will continue until the Israeli occupation meets legitimate demands of the Palestinian people.

Fourth: We reiterate that the Palestinian people’s right to resist the occupation is legitimate as per the international conventions and laws, including the armed struggle which is a strategic choice for the Palestinian people to preserve their cause and restore their national rights.

Fifth: We reject all political schemes, above all the “deal of the century”, that seek to legitimize the Israeli occupation of Palestine and liquidate the Palestinian cause and national constants and rights. In fact, these plans are doomed to failure unless the Palestinian people gain all their national rights, the foremost among them is allowing the Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Sixth: Hamas opposes all forms of normalisation with the Israeli occupation, especially at this sensitive and dangerous phase. Moreover, the Arab and Islamic masses along with all free people of the world oppose boosting relations with the Israeli occupation and accepting the Israeli occupation of Palestine. They also reject all forms of normalization with the illegal occupation, let alone legitimizing its abhorrent violations.

Seventh: We call on the United Nations to rectify its fault of Resolution 181, which legalised the Israeli occupation of Palestine, by bringing justice to the Palestinian people and supporting them with actions, not words.

Eighth: We condemn Trump’s measures aiming at liquidating the Palestinian people’s right to Jerusalem as a capital for the future state of Palestine, including moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv and recognizing the holy city as the capital of the Israeli occupation. Hamas also denounces the US plans aiming at liquidating the Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homeland, which is a sacred right for the Palestinian people.

Ninth: We reaffirm the necessity to lift the sanctions imposed by the Palestinian Authority on Gaza and implement the outcomes of the 2011 Cairo deal and 2017 Biuret agreement on the basis of national partnership in order to create a good environment apt for achieving the national reconciliation and form a national unity government. Otherwise, the PA would continue to foil efforts exerted in this regard under the pretext of “empowering the national consensus government.”
