In a message sent to the EU Chief of Foreign Policy Federica Mogherini, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas warned that voting against Palestinian resistance undermines stability in occupied territories, as well as the whole region.

A senior Hamas delegation handed over the letter to the EU headquarters in Gaza.

Reminding Mogherini with a previous message that highlighted the accordance of Palestinian resistance with the international law, Hamas said: “We would like to draw your attention that passing such a resolution will have grave and serious repercussions, both on the Palestinian issue and the future of resolving the conflict and the stability and security of the region.”

Hamas added: “Passing this resolution legitimises and gives coverage to the Israeli occupation to continue its aggression against the Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip.”

It continued: “Those, who will vote in favour of the resolution, bear the legal and moral responsibility for any future Israeli aggression against our people.

“Such a resolution undermines the foundations of the ongoing truce understandings brokered by Egypt and international powers which we have considered an important opportunity to end the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip resulted of the 12-year-old Israeli siege. The resolution opens the door for a renewed cycle of uncontrolled violence and confrontations.”

Hamas told the EU official: “We are surprised that the EU, which supported the ceasefire understandings, had taken this unjustified position –to support the vote on the resolution,” stressing that passing this resolution challenges the credibility of the EU.”

It is worth noting that December 3 coincides the 36th anniversary for the UN resolution that stressed on the importance of the universal realisation of the right of peoples to self-determination and of the speedy granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples for the effective guarantee and observance of human rights.

The resolution “reaffirms the legitimacy of the struggle of peoples for independence, territorial integrity, national unity and liberation from colonial and foreign domination and foreign occupation by all available means, including armed struggle.”
