The Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ decision to dissolve the Palestinian Legislative Council will “negatively affect the national institutions and interests,” member of Hamas Political Bureau Khalil al-Haya said.

In a press release, al-Haya added that the Constitutional Court’s decision to dissolve the PLC is “null and void,” as it was issued by a body formed without national consensus to serve partisan agenda.

Al-Haya noted that the elected PLC would continue performing its constitutional duty delegated to the legal body by the Palestinian people after being elected in 2006.

The Hamas leader confirmed that Abbas’ move would pave the way for the “Deal of the Century” aimed to isolate Gaza from the West Bank.

Regarding Abbas’ remarks about his stance towards the Palestinian resistance, al-Haya condemned Abbas’ labeling of the Palestinian freedom fighters as “murderers”.

Al-Haya noted that Abbas’ legal term in office finished in 2009.
