The formation of a joint list with the Palestinian factions to run for elections will minimize the options of the Palestinian people, member of Hamas Political Bureau Mosa Abu Marzouq said on Tuesday.

In a press release, Abu Marzouq reiterated that his movement would accept the outcomes of any future elections, “no matter what they are.”

Abu Marzouq noted that Hamas has welcomed more than once holding general elections, as it “believes that polls are the only way to restore national unity.” 

The Hamas official noted that the general elections should have been held before the PA’s move the dissolve the Palestinian Legislative Council.

National unity government

Abu Marzouq stressed that Hamas was prepared to form a national unity government “whether before or after the elections.”

Regarding the PA Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein al-Shiekh’s remarks, in which he said that forming a government with Hamas at this stage would deepen the internal division, Abu Marzouq condemned al-Shiekh’s statements as “unacceptable and bizarre” and aimed at widening the internal rift.
