Member of Hamas Political Bureau Mosa Abu Marzoq confirmed on Monday that Fatah had a preliminary intention to thwart the Russia-hosted talks in Moscow. 

In an interview broadcast by al-Aqsa TV channel, Abu Marzouq added that Fatah had a preliminary plan to undermine any effort aimed at achieving national reconciliation.

Regarding the reason behind not having a joint statement following the Moscow talks, Abu Marzouq said that Fatah manipulated the language used in the statement and added terms, such as “East Jerusalem and a Palestinian state with 1967 borders.”

Abu Marzouq noted that all Palestinian factions rejected the “Deal of the Century” and reiterated that unified Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.

The senior Hamas leader stressed that his movement wanted to restore national unity in order to achieve the Palestinian people’s demands and called for holding fair elections that represent all segments of the Palestinian people.

Abu Marzouq noted that Hamas would discuss with the Egyptian officials whether Egypt plans to invite the Palestinian factions for a meeting to discuss the national unity, stressing that the 12-year Israeli siege would never crush the Palestinian people’s determination to fight off the occupation.
