On the US decision to shut down its consulate in Palestine and merge it with its embassy in Jerusalem, member of Hamas International Relations Office Dr. Basem Naim stated the following:

As the US closes its consulate today Monday, it winds down the 175-year diplomatic mission to Palestine. Indeed, merging the consulate with the US embassy in Jerusalem reflects the shortsightedness of the Trump administration. It is also a new step confirming the biased position adopted by successive US administrations against the Palestinian people. Furthermore, the move is aimed at wiping out the idea of ​​an independent Palestinian state, thus highlighting the last output of the “Trump’s deal”.
