Member of Hamas Political Bureau Suhail al-Hindi hoped that Egypt’s efforts to restore intra-Palestinian unity would make a real breakthrough in this issue. 

In a press release, al-Hindi stressed that his movement is willing to achieve reconciliation make more concessions for the sake of the Palestinian cause, describing unity as “Hamas’ strategic goal.”

Al-Hindi ruled out the possibility that his movement would make concessions related to the national constants, including the disarmament of Palestinian resistance.

The Hamas official noted that the circumstances that the Palestinian cause, in particular, and the region, in general, have been going through spurred an urgent need to make reconciliation efforts succeed.

In light of what he described as impossible preconditions set by Fatah to achieve reconciliation, al-Hindi said that his movement suggested a “rapprochement” based on forming a national unity government, involving all Palestinian factions, which would be assigned several tasks, above all holding legislative, presidential, and National Council elections within a specific period of time.

Al-Hindi stressed that his movement would respect the results of any elections, adding that Hamas is interested in national partnership through which all factions can participate in the Palestinian decision-making 

Ceasefire understandings

Al-Hindi confirmed that Hamas will adhere to the Egypt-brokered ceasefire understandings, including lifting Gaza siege, as long as the Israeli occupation abides by them.  

The senior Hamas official noted that some of the ceasefire understandings have already been implemented on the ground.

Al-Hindi added that his movement was observing the implementation of the ceasefire understandings from the Israeli side.

 ‘Deal of the Century’

Regarding the so-called “Deal of the Century”, al-Hindi said that the US plan was not introduced to Hamas delegation during its latest visit to Cairo.

Al-Hindi ruled out the possibility of any foreign endeavour to establish a state in Gaza and parts of Egypt’s the Sinai Peninsula.

The Hamas official reiterated that the “Deal of the Century” is mainly aimed at annexing the occupied West Bank.

Al-Hindi reaffirmed his movement’s rejection of establishing a state in Gaza or a state without Gaza.
