On the occupation of Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim festival of breaking the fast, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh stated the following:
I would like to send my wishes to Muslims around the world over the advent of Eid al-Fitr, which comes after the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
I hope that the Palestinian people would celebrate Eid al-Fitr next year while their homeland is liberated and their independent state is established with Jerusalem as its capital.
On this occasion, I would like to invite all the Palestinian people and institutions to work together in order to protect and defend al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy places against the Israeli schemes and the ‘Deal of the Century’.
May the martyrs rest in peace. I wish the injured a speedy recovery and the Palestinian detainees in the Israeli jails freedom.
Ismail Haniyeh
