Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh discussed on Monday afternoon the understandings to end Israeli siege on Gaza with Qatari Ambassador Mohammed al-Emadi.

In a press release, Haniyeh’s media advisor Taher al-Nunu said that Hamas leadership had expressed its appreciation to the Qatari role and the renewed Qatari support for the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

During the meeting, al-Nunu added, Hamas hailed the “responsible” national stance of the Qatari foreign ministry, which rejected the classification of Hamas as a “terrorist group” by some countries and bodies.

Al-Nunu explained that both sides had discussed the efforts, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United Nations, to end the Palestinian suffering in Gaza, noting that the high commitment of the national factions to the understanding was reflective of their national responsibility towards ending the Israeli siege on Gaza.

Hamas warned against any attempt by the Israeli occupation to stall the implementation of these understandings, al-Nunu continued, adding that closing the fishing zone off Gaza’s coast to Palestinian fishermen would put ceasefire efforts at risk.

Al-Nunu noted that Hamas leadership had been briefed by al-Emadi on his meetings with various sides, including the UN, the EU, or the Israeli occupation.

The Hamas Chief’s media advisor demonstrated that his movement’s meetings with al-Emadi reflected Qatar’s determination to pressure all sides to comply with their commitments on the ground.

It has been agreed that al-Emadi would stay in contact with Hamas and follow up the implementation of all agreed-upon understandings during his forthcoming visit in the coming days, al-Nunu went on to explain.

An Egyptian delegation, according to al-Nunu, is due to arrive in Gaza at the end of this week to continue its efforts in this regard.
