Member of Hamas Political Bureau Khalil al-Hayya said Sunday evening that no progress was made in the reconciliation process due to difficult conditions set by Fatah.

In a press release, al-Hayya regretted that there is also no progress “on the horizon”, calling on Fatah and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to realise the dangers posed to the Palestinian cause and achieve national reconciliation.

Al-Hayya urged Abbas to take a step towards national unity, call for a meeting for the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s Temporary Leadership Framework, and form a national unity government.

The senior Hamas official reiterated the necessity to allow the Palestinian people of the occupied West Bank to resist the occupation.

Al-Hayya renewed his calls for the PA to lift its sanctions on Gaza, imposed since 2017, and achieve national reconciliation in order to face off the challenges posed to the Palestinian cause.

Regarding Abbas’ decision to halt all agreements with the Israeli occupation, al-Hayya hailed this move as a “step in the right path,” adding that it needed practical steps to be enforced on the ground, including achieving national unity and ending political arrests.
