Hamas follows the annual session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York, and the presidents’ speeches at the international forum, some of which contained important remarks on the Palestinian cause.

In light of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at this international forum, Hamas highlights the necessity for the PA President to be equipped with national unity when addressing the world’s leaders. National reconciliation is the sole guarantee to convince the international community to support the Palestinian rights and quest for freedom and independence.

It is high time for the PA leadership to scrap the catastrophic Oslo Accords after 25 years of political delusion that has brought the Palestinian people nothing but more suffering, land theft, and defilement of holy sites. 

The UN speech should be a chance for Abbas to remind the world of the suffering inflicted on the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation and unabated US support at the expense of the Palestinian rights, above all establishing an independent state on Palestine, allowing Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland from which they were displaced, and releasing all Palestinian detainees, some of whom have gone on a hunger strike in protest at Israeli measures against them, protecting Jerusalem from judaization plans and reversing the US decisions on the holy city, as well as ending the Gaza siege and recognising the right of the Palestinian people to resist the Israeli occupation with all means possible, guaranteed under international laws for the peoples under occupation.      

The PA leadership should now frankly tell the world the truth about the mirage known as the peace process, which the PA got into with the help of the world’s leaders. The PA should also highlight to the world that the UN has failed to enforce any resolution or stance taken in favour of the Palestinian people throughout the past decades.

The PA has to move forward a true national unity, based on partnership between all national Palestinian and which will be a springboard for facing off the Isareli occupation and all US-led projects aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause.
