On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalists, Head of Hamas Media Department Dr. Khalil al-Hayya stated the following:

On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalists, I am pleased and honored to express my appreciation and gratitude to Palestinian journalists working in Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the diaspora, and 1948 occupied territories.

I am proud of all Palestinian journalists for their remarkable media coverage and for communicating the truth to the world in spite of all threats and dangers posed by the Israeli occupation which has deliberately targeted and chased them to block their media mission and communicating the truth to the world.

The Israeli occupation has perpetrated the most awful crimes against free journalists who were credited with maintaining the Palestinian rights and constants and exposing the Israeli crimes. The Israeli violations against journalists were met by  determination to complete the media mission professionally and with high national spirit.

We stress that free journalists burden the responsibility of maintaining the Palestinian rights and constants and raising awareness of the Palestinian public opinion to direct the compass towards the issue of Palestine.

We support the role of journalists in monitoring the Palestinian organisations and in holding officials and decision-makers accountable for their bad performance. Journalists should, moreover, enhance transparency and integrity to protect the interests of the Palestinian people.

We consider media a power that should be used to support our national constants and expose the Israeli propaganda and crimes.

Finally, we stress that we support the media mission of the Palestinian journalists and urge them to exert more effort to support the Palestinian people and highlight the Israeli oppression endured by the Palestinian people.
