Any call for elections without Palestinian national consensus will deepen the internal division, regardless of its form and structure, Hamas official Wasfi Qubha said Tuesday.

In a press release, Qubha called on the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority to create a “national and healthy environment” where Palestinian civilians can express their opinion freely, with no fear of arrest and suppression.

Qubha deplored statements made by PA officials about democracy while its security forces follow a policy of suppression and monopoly on political views in the West Bank.

The Hamas official urged PA President Mahmoud Abbas to call for the Leadership Framework of Palestinian factions to immediately convene in order to discuss all issues related to the Palestinian cause and take decisions severing the Palestinian people.

Qubha called on the PA to express good will by reversing its monopolistic policies and create a national environment for elections.
