Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said Tuesday that his movement is willing to spare no effort to facilitate the election process.

“Hamas is ready to do what’s necessary to ensure the success of the election process, as part of its national responsibility and care for its people’s supreme interest,” Qasem said in a press release.

Qasem noted that the Palestinian people have a “genuine” right to vote in the elections and select their leadership.

“Hamas had taken a clear and positive stance towards the elections and expresses its willingness to participate in the election process once Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced his intention to hold the general elections,” Qasem continued.

The Hamas spokesperson called on the PA President to accept an initiative presented by eight Palestinian factions to achieve national reconciliation.

Qasem pointed out that the factional vision is a suitable effort to prepare the ground for simultaneous presidential and legislative elections and agreeing on a date for the National Council elections. 

Meanwhile, Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoa reiterated the necessity to hold elections simultaneously as “one package”, as per the agreements signed by Palestinian factions, including Fatah.

Al-Qanoa condemned Fatah for rejecting the factional initiative, noting that its move reflected its violation of factional consensus and national position in support of holding general elections.
