The UNESCO Executive Board called on the Israeli occupation to halt its violations and unilateral and illegal measures against al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem’s Old City as part of a draft resolution on Jerusalem.

During its 207^th session, the UNESCO endorsed a draft resolution on occupied Jerusalem stating that all Israeli measures aimed at changing the status quo in the holy city and its identity are null and void.

The decision highlighted the 16 previous resolutions on Jerusalem, which have expressed regret over the Israeli occupation’s failure to stop digging tunnels and all illegal actions east of occupied Jerusalem.

Stressing on the necessity to appoint a permanent UNESCO representative to the Old City in occupied Jerusalem, the UN resolution called for a sending a “reactive monitoring mission” from UNESCO to Jerusalem in order to monitor all violations committed by Israeli occupation authorities.

The UNECSO resolution, which confirms all previous gains that have been stipulated in the Jerusalem file, came as a result of a diplomatic effort by Jordan and Palestine as well as the Arab and Muslim groups in the UN body.
