Head of Hamas parliamentary block Mahmoud al-Zahar warned Tuesday against holding “partial” election, as it will deepen Palestinian division.

During a meeting held in Gaza by Hamas’ Change and Reform bloc, al-Zahar highlighted the necessity to hold legislative, presidential, and National Council elections simultaneously.

Al-Zahar reiterated his rejection to accept having Palestinian elections separately or holding legislative election only.

“The aim of elections is the actual representation of the [Palestinian] people,” al-Zahar added.

The Hamas MP called for elections to be held in all Palestinian territories, including the occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip and without excluding any Palestinian faction.

Al-Zahar also called for approving the Elections Law no. 9/2005, noting that he rejected the amendments made by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to the Law no. 1/2007.
