Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh received in UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov.

In the meeting, both sides discussed the ways to organise general elections and ending the Palestinian division.

Haniyeh briefed Meladonove on the factions’ stances towards the elections. He also highlighted that a national meeting should be held before the elections

Mladenov welcomed the positive stance of the movement towards holding vote, hoping that such efforts will lead the elections to success.

He also stressed that the UN will endeavour to lead the polls to success, noting that national consensus is necessary to ensure success and transparency.
