The Palestinian Authority security forces are poisoning the positive atmosphere created by Hamas to hold fair and transparent elections by curtailing freedoms and arresting Palestinians for their political views, said Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoa.

In a press release, al-Qanoa confirmed that the PA security forces “are committing a massacre” by intensifying political arrests against Hamas officials and supporters on the 32nd anniversary of the Palestinian movement.

Al-Qanoa pointed out that the PA security forces adopted the “revolving door policy with Israeli occupation forces,” by arresting Palestinians on political grounds.

The Hamas spokesperson called on Palestinian factions and NGOs to pressure the PA to grant the Palestinians in the West Bank more freedom and end the ongoing suppression policy followed by its security forces.

Al-Qanoa explained that Hamas is still positive and keen on holding general elections, noting that his movement is waiting for the PA president to issue a decree to hold elections and make the necessary arrangements for the election process.
