A high-ranking Hamas delegation, led by head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh, met on Monday afternoon with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in Doha.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Qatari emir on the latest political developments, especially those related to strategic issues, above all Jerusalem, settlement activity, Palestinian refugees, and the dangers posed to the Palestinian cause, in addition to attempts by some sides to politically liquidate it.

The Hamas delegation hailed the close relations with Qatar and its role at several international bodies and forums in support of Palestine, praising the Qatari leadership for funding humanitarian and relief projects to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.  

Furthermore, the latest developments concerning the Palestinian elections and the concessions made by Hamas to overcome the obstacles facing elections, in addition to the requirements for a transparent election process, including creating a welcoming environment and maintaining public freedoms in the West Bank and Gaza to achieve an inclusive national reconciliation and restructure the Palestinian structures on the basis of partnership and democratic principles, were also addressed during the summit.

The senior delegation included Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri, Hamas deputy chief, and Maher Salah, Hamas chief abroad, alongside members of Hamas politburo Mousa Abu Marzouq, Nizar Awadallah, and Izzat Al-Risheq.
