The relief campaign launched in Lebanon’s Palestinian refugee camps came after the economic and social crises had aggravated and led to horrible consequences on Palestinian refugees, Jihad Taha, Hamas deputy political official in Lebanon, said.

In a press release, Taha added that such campaign is part of an effort to alleviate the social and economic hardships facing Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Hamas will spare no effort to mitigate the suffering of its people, Taha stressed, noting that such campaign came as part of its legal, moral, and national responsibility and duty towards the Palestinian people.  

Taha called on Palestinian factions and local community organisations to assume their responsibility towards Palestinian refugees and unify their efforts to alleviate their suffering and help solve all humanitarian and social crises facing them.

The Hamas official criticised UNRWA, the UN body helping Palestinian refugees, for its silence over Palestinian calls to announce a state of emergency in Palestinian refugee camps and communities hit by economic and social crises.

Taha urged UNRWA to take on its responsibility towards Palestinian refugees and launch an aid appeal for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
