A delegation from Hamas, headed by Hamas representative in Lebanon Ahmad Abdel Hadi, met Friday with Cuban ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Pellicer Moraga.

The delegation discussed with the Cuban envoy the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause, the plans targeting the Palestinian people, and the hardships facing Lebanon’s Palestinian refugees.

The Hamas delegation also included Ayman Shanaa, in charge of Hamas-Lebanese relations, Mashoor Abdel Halim, in charge of Palestinian relations, and Abdel Majeed Awad, in charge of Hamas’ media and political relations.

Abdel Hadi briefed Moraga on the challenges facing the Palestinian people at home and abroad, above all the “deal of the century” which is intended to undermine Palestinian rights, in addition to the crippling 12-year Israeli siege on the impoverished Gaza Strip.

The Hamas official stressed that the Palestinian resistance was able to defend its people and repulse Israeli attacks.

The delegation talked about Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem, particularly at al-Aqsa Mosque compound, including daily raids and ongoing violations at the sacred complex.

As for Palestinian elections, Abdel Hadi called for issuing a presidential decree to hold national elections, noting that Hamas had overcome all obstacles facing the election process in order to restore national unity.

Abdel Hadi highlighted the harsh social conditions that the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon have been suffering from amid the economic crisis that the country is going through.

Hamas has launched an aid campaign to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, Abdel Hadi pointed out, urging UNRWA, the UN body helping Palestinian refugees, to launch an emergency plan.   

The Cuban ambassador, in turn, reiterated his country’s constant stance in support of the Palestinian cause.
