Five Palestinian detainees died in Israeli jails due to harsh detention conditions and medical negligence, which is an appalling violation of international law and humanitarian norms, Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoa said.

In a press release, al-Qanoa stressed that the hardships facing Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails aggravated during winter, as they are denied from their basic rights and necessities to keep themselves warm during severe cold waves.

The Hamas spokesperson called on human rights groups and international and humanitarian organisations to assume their responsivity towards the Palestinian detainees and pressure the Israeli occupation to end their suffering and provide them with what they need in winter.

The issue of Palestinian detainees will remain on top of Palestinian constants and priorities of Hamas along with other Palestinian factions until they are released from Israeli prisons, al-Qanoa reiterated.
