Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said that claims made by Palestinian Authority officials that Hamas seeks to replace the Palestinian Liberation Organization “PLO” are baseless.

In a press release, Qasem added that all reconciliation agreements stated that the PLO is the representative for the Palestinian people, but it must be reformed first.

“As the peace process has reached a deadlock, the PA insists to behave without Palestinian consensus and evades the elections. Such reality made the PLO raise such fears,” the Hamas spokesperson added.

He stressed that Hamas has the right to exert efforts at all levels in order to mobolise support for the Palestinian people.
