The continuous assault by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian farmlands and agriculture equipment in Gaza is a form of ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people, Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoa said.

The Israeli occupation has damaged agriculture products by spraying herbicides on Palestinian farmlands and deliberately opening rainwater dams, flooding and damaging swaths of farmlands and crops east of Gaza, al-Qanoa explained in a press release.

Denouncing this attack as a “complicated crime” against Palestinian farmers, al-Qanoa said that such aggression” reflects the  barbarism and arrogance of the Israeli occupation and is a blatant breach of all humanitarian laws and international conventions.” 

Al-Qanoa called on the international community to intervene immediately to put an end to the atrocious Israeli policies against the Palestinian people.

Opening rainwater stores has flooded about 800 dunums of agricultural lands east of Shuja’iyya neighbourhood in eastern Gaza, the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement early on Saturday.

Last Sunday, the Ministry has estimated the damage caused to the Palestinian agriculture sector by opening rainwater dams at nearly $500,000.
