Commenting on UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Nickolay Mladenov’s warning against UNRWA’s financial crisis, Basem Naim, member of Hamas International Relations Office, stated the following:
The international community has to intervene to salvage the situation, as it has created this problem and has to solve it, and at least, protect the rights of Palestinian refugees, and facilitate their living conditions until their question is fairly and legally resolved.
Dissolving UNRWA by abolishing the Palestinian refugee issue was and is still one of the goals of the “US vision”, known as the “deal of the century”, to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Hamas stresses that the question of Palestinian refugees and their rights is a red line and represent the core of the conflict, warning against playing with fire regarding this issue.
We, as Palestinians, will not accept the model of Native Americans who underwent genocide, ethnic cleansing, and displacement; the current US mentality is an extension of the colonial mentality then.
We believe that a right is never lost, as long as someone strives to claim it and that dying for dignity on your homeland is better than living humiliated in any other place.
