Hamas has welcomed the invitation made by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and FIDA Party to form and convene an elected unifying national council outside Palestine in harmony with the reconciliation agreement.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri on Thursday called for respecting the national consensus and refraining from taking one-sided decisions, in order to have a unified national position on Jerusalem intifada.

In a statement issued following their meeting on Wednesday in Ramallah city, the PFLP and the Palestinian Democratic Union, also known as FIDA Party, had stressed the need for forming a unifying council for the Palestinians from all spectra abroad.

Their statement called for forming the council away from any Israeli intervention and allowing all political and social forces from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the resistance factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, to join.
