Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem has called on international organisations concerned with prisoners' rights to urgently intervene to ensure the safety of Palestinian detainees amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Palestinian detainees are fighting for their right to precautionary measures against the spread of the coronavirus and access to basic products banned recently by the Israeli prison service, Qasem said in a press release on Tuesday.

Hamas alongside the Palestinian people supports the legitimate demands of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, stressed Qasem.

Qasem held the Israeli occupation responsible for the implications of its disregard towards the wellbeing and health of Palestinian detainees.

The Hamas spokesperson the issue of Palestinian prisoners would always be a constant of the Palestinian struggle against the occupation, warning “targeting them [the Palestinian detainees] is a red line.”
