Hamas will responsibly handle any actual and true response to its chief in Gaza Yahiya al-Sinwar’s proposal about captive Israeli soldiers, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qasem said.

In a press release, Qasem explained that his movement endorsed al-Sinwar’s initiative for the Israeli occupation to release children, women, sick and elderly prisoners held in its jails in return for a positive step to be taken by the al-Qassam Brigades in this regard.    

“The ball now is in the Israeli occupation government’s court,” added Qasem.

Qasem’s remarks came after Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he is ready for an “immediate discussion of the file through brokers,” responding to al-Sinwar’s offer made amid the outbreak of coronavirus epidemic.
