Chief of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh called on Friday evening Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of the al-Azhar, congratulating him on the advent of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Haniyeh briefed the Grand Imam on Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, including attempts to judaise the holy city and enforce temporal and spatial divisions of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The Hamas chief pointed out that the Israeli occupation had advanced plans to implement the so-called “deal of the century” and judaise and confiscate West Bank land, exploiting the coronavirus crisis as the region and international community are busy with battling the novel virus.

Haniyeh, meanwhile, restated his rejection of all such steps and warned against their consequences.
