Head of Hamas's political bureau Khaled Mishaal has called for a common Palestinian national strategy to support Jerusalem intifada and run it on the ground.

In a special interview conducted last night by al-Jazeera satellite channel, Mishaal said that Palestinians need the intifada to curb the settlers, stop the attacks on Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque, and restore the prestige of the Palestinian cause.

“This [intifada] is a historic moment, and a merit that should be agreed upon nationally." Mishaal noted.

Mishaal emphasized the importance of providing the intifada with an official support from the Palestinian political leadership, which he said should take a decision allowing its security apparatuses and institutions to take part in it.

He confirmed that Palestinians will not retreat from the intifada despite the reluctance of some factions to fully engage in the protests.

He also affirmed that Hamas would go on with the intifada until the end. "We have engaged in the intifada and we will be there till the end. We also invite everyone to take part."

He called on Fatah faction to actively participate in the intifada, asserting that it is against the occupation and not the Palestinian Authority.

He said that the Palestinian people have proven with their blood that they can never coexist with the occupation and settlement, and that the world should anticipate more initiatives and surprises from an occupied people aspiring for freedom.

He also underlined that the current intifada frustrated the Israeli government's plan to divide the Aqsa Mosque after the failure of all political initiatives, adding that the intifada had brought the Palestinian cause back to the regional and international arenas and unified the Palestinian people inside and outside occupied Palestine.

Commenting on recent remarks by John Kerry in which he classified Palestinian resistance acts as terrorism, Mishaal noted that the Palestinian resistance has shown moral superiority against the occupation when its fighters refrained from targeting children while the Israeli occupation and its settlers had burned the Dawabshehs alive.

He reiterated Hamas’s position that welcomes all efforts to achieve Palestinian unity, noting that the Movement has accepted a Saudi offer to convene with Fatah, which Fatah did not approve.

“We are ready to convene with Fatah and discuss Palestinian issues, all issues, in any place and any time.” He said.
